This year’s Comicdom Con Athens main exhibition is dedicated to Archie and the Riverdale gang. Jughead, Betty, Veronica, and the rest of the popular characters will come alive before the visitors’ eyes, through original pages and collectible artifacts from the collections of the Cartoon Art Museum and Archie Publishing’s co-CEO, Nancy Silberkleit.
Since their first appearance in 1939 and right up to their revival through the RIVERDALE TV series, Archie and his friends were always present for all important social, historical, and cultural events. As the characters grew, so did the issues that were examined in their adventures. Technology’s influence on everyday life, the feminist movement and women’s empowerment, the environment and our ecologic conscience, even sexual orientation and diversity, are some of the social concerns that drew the attention of our favorite gang. And, naturally, friendships, personal relationships, and puberty with all it entails, were always under the spotlight.
The “Archie: Welcome to Riverdale” exhibition aspires to introduce o re-introduce to the audience, a legendary comic book which still remains relevant and groundbreaking at the same time, reminding us of the power of good stories and well-rounded characters.
